The residential category of property development is where most developers undertake their first projects. It can include a single or double storey dwelling or unit as well as larger strata unit developments such as townhouses, villas and retirement villages.

 

Apartments are also called flats or more technically small, medium or high density units. Developments in this category can range from simple double story to multistory, mixed used developments.

 

Commercial office buildings can vary in size and quality according to finishes (which include wall and
floor tiles, carpets etc.) They can be renovated homes, strata-titles, high-rie structures or low-rise
business parks.

 

The retail category includes the small corner shop, showrooms, neighborhood shopping centres,
community centres, community centres and regional retail centres.

 

Industrial building are simple in design, providing large, open spaces for manufacturing or storage. These developments can vary from light industrial (which include buildings for warehousing and small manufacturers) to heavy industrial (which are generally planned away from residential areas; a petro-chemical plant is an example of this type of development).

 

The land category can include a subdivision of raw agricultural land or a subdivision of an older property.
The demand for new land is created by the changes in urban planning due to population growth.

Accommodation includes motels, hotels and holiday apartments that are generally located near holiday resort that caters for temporary accommodation.

The recreational category can include entertainment centres, casinos, golf courses, sport stadiums and waterfront developments. They can either stand alone or be part of a mixed – use complex, together with retail outlets.

Other developments can include specialty buildings such as medical and childcare centres, theatres,
research centres and other special-purpose buildings.
